Outdoor Activities on Maui

Zip Through the Trees, Ride the Trails, and Explore the Island

There’s more to Maui’s adventures beyond the Pacific, the island’s land-based experiences are endless and stretch the imagination. Think ziplining through scenic forests, hitting plentiful hiking trails or getting an adrenaline rush by mountain biking down volcanic slopes.

Many of our favorite activities are just a short drive from Aston Maui Kāʻanapali Villas.

Ziplining in West Maui

Soar side-by-side with a friend on Maui’s only dual zipline course at Kapalua Ziplines. This thrilling adventure takes you across panoramic mountain views and includes a walk across Hawaiʻi’s largest suspension bridge. It’s a favorite for couples, families, and anyone looking to add a little heart pumping action to their vacation.

Biking the Island

Whether you’re cruising the coast or soaring down Haleakalā’s summit, biking is one of the most scenic ways to explore Maui. Rent gear from Maui Sunriders in Kapalua and ride to spots like the Nakalele Blowhole or West Maui Bike Park. For a bucket-list experience, join a guided tour down Haleakalā to the charming surf town of Pāʻia in the North Shore.

The Road to Hāna

Take a journey through lush rainforests, waterfalls, and dramatic coastlines on the legendary Road to Hāna, a scenic 64+ mile stretch connecting Kahului to Hana in east Maui. Stop at Waiʻānapanapa State Park to explore a beautiful black sand beach. Continue to Haleakalā National Park’s Kīpahulu District, where the Pipiwai Trail leads through a bamboo forest to the stunning Waimoku Falls.

Haleakalā National Park

Watch the sunrise from 10,000 feet above sea level at Haleakalā – one of Maui’s most breathtaking experiences. The park offers several hiking trails throughout the crater. A permit is needed for sunrise entry between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., so if you’re an early bird, plan ahead for this unforgettable adventure.

Upcountry Hiking Trails

Escape to cooler elevations and explore the Makawao Forest Reserve, a serene retreat filled with eucalyptus, pine, and wild ginger. The Kahakapao Loop Trail is a favorite for walking and mountain biking, while the nearby Waihou Spring Trail offers an easy two-mile hike perfect for families.
